What your installer still needs to do: fit and check the system, complete the vehicle-side wiring and fully tune your exact engine on your local fuel. Installation labour and final tuning are additional. Fuel-system upgrades and other work outside the agreed kit configuration may also be required.

Modern EFI for the Rover V8, whatever it powers.

Made to order | Estimated lead time: 3–10 weeks

Required: full tuning by a Haltech specialist.

The supplied base map may allow initial startup. It is not a finished tune or a drive-ready calibration. Your vehicle must receive a full tune from a Haltech specialist in your country, using your local fuel and exact engine setup. We strongly recommend that the installation is also completed by a Haltech specialist experienced with Nexus R3 and Haltech NSP software. Arrange installation and tuning before ordering.

From a Range Rover Classic to a Morgan Plus 8 or TVR, the Rover V8 is an engine worth keeping. Our Rover V8 EFI kit brings modern fuel and ignition control to these engines while retaining the character that makes them special.

Developed through our own Range Rover Classic build and adapted for other Rover V8 applications, this system replaces ageing engine management with a modern Haltech-based solution. We can assist with Rover V8-powered vehicles across makes, from factory installations to custom builds.

The Difference

Ageing fuel and ignition components can make a great engine frustrating to live with. Modern control allows precise management of fuelling and ignition, with tuning to improve cold starting, idle stability, throttle response and everyday drivability.

Whether your car is a weekend classic, a touring vehicle or a restored sports car, the aim is simple: make your Rover V8 easier to start, smoother to drive and more enjoyable to use.

Installed Across the Rover V8 Community

Our EFI systems have been installed in:

  • Early and late Range Rover Classics, in both left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive configurations.
  • A fully restored 1988 Morgan Plus 8.
  • A TVR Wedge 390.

These installations build on the same approach: modern engine management configured around the Rover V8 and the vehicle it lives in.

Customer Experience: John Turnbull’s Morgan Plus 8

John Turnbull’s 1988 Morgan Plus 8 with Rover V8 EFI

John is in his 80s and fitted our EFI kit to his fully restored Morgan Plus 8, replacing an early Haltech batch-fire system from the 1990s.

When we caught up at All British Day in Brisbane, he told us the upgrade made it feel like a completely new car. He reported more power, a transformed driving experience and a kit that was straightforward to install.

A summary of John’s feedback from our conversation at All British Day. Photos shared with his permission.

Real-World Fuel Economy

On our recent trip to Brisbane, our EFI-equipped Range Rover Classic with an 8-speed automatic was showing fuel consumption around 9–11 L/100 km while cruising at 110 km/h.

This is our observed highway cruising result with the combined EFI and 8-speed setup, rather than a tank-to-tank fuel economy test. Consumption varies with engine specification, tuning, gearing, tyres, load and driving conditions.

Harness & ECU Preparation by Alan Butler

Alan Butler, Turbo Yoda, at Allied Performance Projects

Alan Butler, known as Turbo Yoda from Mighty Car Mods and The Skid Factory, prepares the kit’s wiring harness and ECU configuration.

That specialist preparation is paired with Regal Rover Classics’ Rover V8 development, vehicle-specific components and fitment support. It gives your installer a prepared foundation for the conversion.

The base map is for setup and initial startup. Your local Haltech specialist still needs to install, check and fully tune your exact vehicle on your local fuel.

A Complete Engine Management System

The Stage 3 system is built around the Haltech Nexus R3, bringing engine management and integrated power distribution together. Modern injectors, individual ignition coils, crank and cam timing inputs and a terminated engine loom form the foundation of the conversion.

Integrated power control and circuit protection simplify the engine management installation and reduce reliance on external fuse boxes and mechanical relays for the circuits managed by the system.

Kit configuration is matched to your engine and installation. Intake arrangement, throttle type, component mounting and vehicle-side connections are confirmed for your application.

Rover V8 Applications

We welcome enquiries for 3.5, 3.9, 4.0, 4.2 and 4.6-litre Rover V8 engines, along with rebuilt, modified and larger-capacity Rover V8 builds.

Applications include Range Rover, Land Rover Discovery 1, Defender, Morgan Plus 8, TVR, Rover cars, factory MG Rover V8 models and MG V8 conversions and other vehicles powered by the Rover V8.

Each application is assessed individually. Engine capacity alone does not determine fitment. Please confirm your engine, intake, existing fuel system and vehicle configuration with us before ordering so we can establish the parts and installation requirements.

Discovery 1 & Discovery 2

Discovery 1 Rover V8 applications are supported; confirm your engine and installation details before ordering.

Discovery 2 4.0 & 4.6 EFI — available to order

Explore our Discovery 2 Haltech Nexus R3 EFI kit, with the same kit configuration and air-conditioning/purge choices as our established EFI packages.

We know the conversion can be done, but we have not yet built one ourselves. The Discovery 2 trigger setup requires additional development, testing and validation. Allow an extended timeframe beyond our established kits’ usual production estimate, and contact us before ordering to agree your configuration and timeline.

Cable Throttle or Drive-By-Wire

We can assist with cable-throttle and electronic throttle configurations. The optional drive-by-wire (DBW) upgrade adds electronic throttle control and allows features such as cruise control when the required inputs, controls and calibration are fitted and configured.

We will help establish the appropriate configuration for your vehicle, its intake setup and how you intend to use it.

Optional Vehicle Integration

These options add wiring, connections and ECU configuration to work with compatible equipment already fitted to your vehicle.

Air Conditioning Integration (+A$200)

Choose this if you want the Haltech ECU to work with your existing air conditioning. The ECU recognises when air conditioning is requested and can compensate for the compressor load to help maintain a steady idle.

Includes additional harness wiring, Deutsch connections and ECU configuration for compatible air conditioning request and compressor control circuits. Your existing air conditioning hardware and safety controls must be retained and checked by your installer.

Charcoal Canister Purge Control (+A$150)

The charcoal canister captures fuel vapour from your petrol tank. An electrically controlled purge valve allows that vapour to be drawn into the engine and burnt at suitable operating conditions.

Choose this to retain ECU control of a compatible existing purge valve. Includes the additional harness wiring, connection and ECU configuration. The charcoal canister, purge valve and hoses are not supplied with this option.

Vehicle integration options: Standard (no additional integration), Air conditioning integration (+A$200), Charcoal canister purge control (+A$150), or Air conditioning + purge control (+A$350).

Unsure which option you need? Email photos of your current setup before ordering. We confirm the requirements before harness assembly. Additional spare circuits for planned upgrades can be quoted separately.

Installation and Tuning: Read Before Ordering

A full vehicle-specific tune by a Haltech specialist is required. The supplied ECU configuration and base map are intended for initial setup and startup only. Your engine may start on this map, but starting and running does not mean the calibration is complete or suitable for driving.

Your chosen Haltech specialist must fully tune the vehicle for your exact engine specification, modifications, injectors, intake, throttle arrangement and the local fuel you will use in your country. The supplied base map does not replace this work. Do not drive the vehicle on the base map; arrange with your specialist how it will be transported for tuning.

Our strong recommendation is to use a Haltech specialist for installation as well as tuning. Choose someone with practical experience installing and configuring the Haltech Nexus R3 using NSP (Nexus Software Programmer). General mechanical or automotive electrical experience alone does not establish familiarity with this system.

We have seen installations attempted by mechanics unfamiliar with NSP lead to avoidable setup issues and additional costs for customers, who then need to pay another specialist to correct the installation and complete the tune. Choosing an experienced Haltech specialist from the outset helps avoid paying for the work twice.

Installation labour and the required full tune are not included in the kit price. Arrange these services and their costs with your chosen Haltech specialist before ordering. Documentation, pin-outs and software references are provided to support the installation.

Vehicle-side wiring and application-specific fitting are required. Your fuel system must provide the pressure and flow required for EFI; carburettor installations and modified engines may require additional fuel system work.

Before ordering, email us with your vehicle make, model and year, engine capacity, left-hand or right-hand drive configuration, current intake and throttle arrangement, relevant modifications and engine bay photos.

Lead Time

Each kit is made to order. Estimated lead time is 3–10 weeks, depending on component availability from Haltech and Al’s availability to finalise the wiring harness and ECU configuration. Al, also known as Turbo Yoda from Mighty Car Mods and The Skid Factory, prepares these elements of the kit.

Complete the Build

Add a Haltech digital dash. Bring engine data, warnings and configurable displays together through the Nexus R3’s CAN connection. We offer a Range Rover Classic digital dash package for hard and soft dash vehicles. For Morgan, TVR and other Rover V8 builds, contact us about a suitable Haltech display and mounting requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it fit my Rover V8?

We assess your engine, intake, throttle, fuel system and vehicle wiring before harness assembly. We can assist with 3.5, 3.9, 4.0, 4.2 and 4.6-litre engines, modified builds and other capacities. Engine size alone does not confirm fitment. Send your vehicle details and engine-bay photos before ordering if requirements are unclear.

Is this only for Range Rover Classics?

No. Our systems have been installed in early and late Classics in LHD and RHD, a restored 1988 Morgan Plus 8 and a TVR Wedge 390. We also welcome enquiries for Rover V8-powered Discovery 1, Defender, Rover, MG V8 and custom applications. Each installation is assessed individually.

Can I install it and drive on the supplied map?

No. The base map may allow startup, but it is not a finished tune. A Haltech specialist in your country must fully tune your exact vehicle on your local fuel before driving. We strongly recommend the same specialist handles installation and has practical Nexus R3 and NSP experience.

What should I budget for beyond the kit?

Installation labour and the required full tune are additional. Your application may also need fuel-system work, mounting or vehicle-side wiring. Ask your Haltech specialist to assess these costs before ordering. Supplied parts are those agreed for your selected configuration.

Should I choose cable throttle or drive-by-wire?

We can assist with either. Drive-by-wire can support cruise control when the required controls, inputs and calibration are fitted. Tell us your intake layout and whether you want cruise control so we can confirm the configuration.

What do the A/C and purge options do?

A/C integration lets the ECU recognise air-conditioning demand and compensate for compressor load at idle, with compatible request/control wiring. Purge control operates a compatible existing valve so fuel vapour captured by the charcoal canister can be burnt in the engine. A/C is +A$200, purge is +A$150, or both are +A$350. These do not supply an A/C system, charcoal canister, purge valve or hoses.

Will it improve fuel economy?

Correct tuning can improve how an ageing system runs, but there is no guaranteed figure. Our EFI-equipped Classic with an 8-speed showed approximately 9–11 L/100 km cruising at 110 km/h on a Brisbane trip. That was an observed highway result with both upgrades, not a tank-to-tank test or a result every vehicle will achieve.

Can I add a digital dash or 8-speed later?

A compatible digital display can connect through CAN. Our Range Rover Classic UC-10 dash is available separately; enquire about other vehicles. Our 8-speed products remain in development and testing and are not available to order. Tell us about future plans before your harness is built.

How long will my kit take?

Estimated production lead time is 3–10 weeks, depending on Haltech component availability and Alan’s availability to finalise the harness and ECU configuration. Freight is additional to production time.

Can you help customers outside Australia?

Yes. We support overseas Rover V8 enquiries and ship to supported destinations. Check your country and freight at checkout or email us. Arrange a local Haltech specialist and confirm local vehicle and emissions requirements before ordering.

Ready to plan your conversion? Select your configuration above, or send your vehicle details and engine photos to confirm fitment before ordering.
