Cabin Filter Kit for Range Rover Classic, Discovery 1 & Discovery 2

Keep the Crap Out of Your HVAC System

Leaves, dust, seeds, insects, rodent nests and all sorts of debris can enter the factory fresh air intake completely unfiltered. We have finally developed a practical cabin filter solution to help keep it out.

The Problem

The Range Rover Classic Soft Dash was never fitted with a proper cabin filter. Outside air enters through the factory fresh air intake and travels directly into the blower and HVAC system, bringing whatever has collected around the intake with it.

Over time, leaves, dust, seeds, insects, dirt and even rodent nests can build up inside the blower housing. Apart from being unpleasant, all of that rubbish can restrict airflow, create smells and leave you with a significant cleaning job inside the HVAC system.

This Is What We Want to Stop

Once debris gets inside the blower housing, removing it properly can mean dismantling a substantial amount of the HVAC system.

This kit places a replaceable filter in the incoming airflow, helping catch leaves, dust, seeds, insects and other rubbish before it reaches the blower.

The Solution

Since sharing our HVAC and blower development, we have had a number of owners ask whether we could develop a cabin filter solution.

We investigated installing a filter internally, but there simply is not enough room inside the factory system. The only way to make that work properly would have been to completely redesign the blower housing.

Instead, we designed a dedicated housing that positions the filter at the factory fresh air intake, allowing incoming air to be filtered before it enters the blower and HVAC box.

Minor Trimming Required

This is not a completely modification-free installation. To create enough room for the filter housing, a small section of the factory fresh air intake flange needs to be trimmed.

Rather than trying to hide that, the images below show exactly what is involved.

2. Trim along the marked flange

Why Is Trimming Required?

The available space is extremely limited, and a usable filter simply will not fit without slightly modifying the flange.

It is a small modification, but it provides the clearance required for a practical, serviceable filter housing that remains easy to access for future filter changes.

Off-the-Shelf Replacement Filter

The kit uses a readily available off-the-shelf cabin filter rather than a proprietary replacement that can only be purchased from Regal Rover Classics.

This makes future replacements inexpensive and easier to source from a range of suppliers.

Filter Used During Development

The filter used while developing this kit is an activated carbon cabin filter originally listed for:

  • Jeep Liberty 2008–2012
  • Dodge Nitro 2007–2011

We used the A-Premium two-piece activated carbon cabin filter listed under Amazon ASIN B0BS42JCNF.

An equivalent replacement listed for the same Jeep Liberty and Dodge Nitro applications should also fit, provided its dimensions match.

Vehicle Compatibility

Confirmed fitment:
Range Rover Classic Soft Dash

Expected fitment, not yet confirmed:
Discovery 1 and Discovery 2

We believe the kit will also fit Discovery 1 and Discovery 2 models due to the similarities in their fresh air intake arrangements. However, we have not yet physically tested the kit on these vehicles, so Discovery fitment cannot currently be guaranteed.
